Having complete control over your domain names is something very important and being able to access and edit the DNS records for every single one of them is one of the things you have to look for when you search for a registration or a cloud website hosting provider. Maybe you have heard of the so-called “name servers” that show where a domain is hosted, but below them there is a whole set of records, such as the A record, which is the IP address of the server hosting the site, and the MX records, which show the server that manages the emails for a certain domain address. These records are employed if you would like have your website with one service provider and the e-mails with another, for example. You could also use a domain name for a non-website service or forward the traffic to it through special records. Many companies ask for an additional payment to give access to edit certain DNS records apart from the name servers.
